mksysb failing, due to recent changes through IBM 10 Months ago
Hello,

is anyone else troubled with the latest changes from mksysb? https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg1IV02369

We are experiencing this problem more and more often.
mksysb is not generated because some file got changed during backup.
I understand that this change was made, because older mksysb were unreliable (you got problem restoring them, when files got changed during backup).
But know I am unable to generate an compressed mksysb from several machines.

I installed the mentioned IFix and tried the nim -o define -t mksysb command with mksysb_flag P, but seems to be unknown to NIM.
Has anyone else run in this situation lately?
And found a valid workaround?

Kind regards
Frank

Hello,

We also run in this situation.
Since February 2011 we gave IBM all details, implemented
e-fixes but problem is still open (now December 2011) .

IBM told me we are the first which opened a pmr for this
topic.

We have to wait.

Maybe you are able to use our workaround:
We create the mksysb without compression (mksysb_flags=Xpim) and compress the file afterwards using gzip.
Upside effects:
Faster mksysb generation.
Lower spaceusage, because gzip is more effective

Downside effects:
gzip is taking a bit extra time (so time used for backup stays nearly the same)
Before restoring the mksysb you have to decompress the mksysb.

Kind regards
Frank
