Disk Parameters for SAS - disks 1 Year, 9 Months ago
We have a Bladecenter D with JS22 - blades and local, SAS - attached disks. They are configured in a RAID5.

As there are quite a few recommentions for queue_depth and max_transfer on fibrechannel attached disks, are there any for thos local storagesystems ?

Thanks in advance !

Hello,

the recomendations are the same as for the disks you see from the SAN. If you give the disks to the LPARs via vSCSI the hdisk in the LPAR will be created with queue_depth=3 and max_transfer=0x40000. To improve performance change these parameters to the values of the disks in the VIOS. This applies only if you map whole disks.

Regards
Claus

So, if using volumes that are spread over several disks ( which is the case here ... ), it does not effect the performance to vary queue_depth and max_transfer_size ?
